Are you worried about your child but unsure if they need child therapy?

Lately, you’ve been struggling to support your child through their big feelings, but nothing seems to work. You notice they’re pulling away from you, their worries feel overwhelming, or their fuse is short. Maybe they’re quick to become frustrated and lash out. Children face many challenges and often don’t know how to ask for help.

How can you tell if your child needs therapy?

It can be tough to know if your child’s behavior requires child therapy. Sometimes, focusing on support for parents leads to better results. Fortunately, I can help you come up with the best plan for your family. If you’re concerned about your child, however, its important to remember: the sooner you get help, the sooner your child can start developing skills to address their needs in healthy ways. If any of the following sound familiar, trust your instincts and seek support:

  • Your child constantly gets in trouble at school.

  • Their behavior is disrupting your family life.

  • They seem unusually sad, afraid, or angry.

  • Their emotions or behaviors are causing them to miss out on key childhood experiences.

  • You have a family history of mental illness or substance abuse.

I can help.

I’m a licensed child therapist with years of experience working with children and adolescents, ages 2-18. When children misbehave, it’s often because they need help but don’t have the words or tools to express it. Often, they aren’t even sure what they need. I specialize in helping children and parents identify and address unmet needs so families can heal.

I’ll help your child:

  • Recognize when they are upset.

  • Learn new skills so they can find calm.

  • Ask for what they need using words, instead of misbehavior or emotional outbursts.

  • Understand other people’s perspectives.

As a parenting expert, I also work directly with you to help you understand the root causes of your child’s behavior, so you can support them in becoming their best selves. Child therapy sessions typically take place in my office once a week. Parent counseling is available in person or virtually.
