You are worried about your child.
Has your child become withdrawn or angry? Does your son have a short fuse and become easily frustrated? Maybe lately it feels like your daughter cries at the drop of a hat. Children face many challenges and they aren’t always able to ask for what they need.
How do you know if your child needs to work with a child therapist?
It can be confusing to know whether your child’s behaviors warrant seeking the help of a child therapist. In general, if you are concerned, it is important to know that the sooner you get help the sooner your child will learn skills to be successful. If any of the following apply to your child and family, pay attention to your instincts to get help.
-
your child’s behaviors are causing chronic trouble at school
-
your child’s behaviors are seriously disrupting your family life
-
your child seems unusually afraid, sad or angry
-
your child’s behaviors or emotions are causing her to miss out on important parts of childhood
-
there is a history of mental illness or substance abuse in your family
I can help.
I am a licensed child therapist with years of experience working with children and adolescents ages 2-18. I believe that when children are misbehaving it is because they need help and they don’t have the words or ability to tell the adults they love. Usually, kids aren’t even sure what it is they need. I specialize in helping children and parents identify what those unmet needs or lacking skills are so that families can heal.
I will teach your child to:
-
learn how to recognize when he is upset
-
learn how to calm down in the moment
-
learn how to ask for what he needs using words instead of misbehavior or emotional outbursts
-
learn how to understand other people’s perspectives
As a parenting expert, I will also work with you directly to help you understand why your children are misbehaving so you can support them in becoming their best selves. Child therapy sessions occur in my office typically on a weekly basis. Parenting consultation can occur in my office or virtually using VSee technology.
