Brainspotting Therapy in Charlotte, NC: Unlock Deep Healing

If traditional therapy hasn’t brought the relief you’re seeking, Brainspotting therapy might be the breakthrough you need. Developed by David Grand in 2003, Brainspotting combines elements of EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and Relational Therapy into one powerful technique. It’s based on the concept that “where you look affects how you feel.”

What Is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a brain-based trauma therapy that helps you process past trauma and emotional blocks. By focusing on a specific location in your visual field, Brainspotting helps you access the deep, unprocessed parts of your brain, where trauma is stored.  A 2006 study by the Newton-Sandy Hook Community Foundation found Brainspotting to be the most effective trauma treatment out of 16 different methods, including EMDR and Somatic Experiencing.

Whether you’re a child or an adult, Brainspotting can help release the emotional and physical tension that’s holding you back, allowing you to heal from trauma, anxiety, and more.

How Does Brainspotting Work?

The process starts with identifying the memory, event, belief, or emotion that you’d like to focus on. Your therapist will guide you in locating your “brainspot”—the specific point in your visual field where you feel the strongest emotional reaction. This eye position helps your brain access the unprocessed trauma stored deep within the subcortical brain. By connecting with this brainspot, your body and mind can begin to process and release the stored trauma.

Each session is customized to your needs, with your therapist fully attuned to your emotional and physical responses. As you explore your brainspot, your therapist will adjust the process to ensure a safe and supportive environment for healing.

Why Is Brainspotting So Effective?

Brainspotting works because trauma doesn’t just reside in your mind—it’s stored in your body as well. When you experience trauma, the body absorbs the tension, leading to physical and emotional symptoms. By identifying and processing these points of trauma, Brainspotting helps your brain release the underlying emotional energy, allowing you to heal more deeply.

Through a trusting and attuned relationship with your therapist, Brainspotting creates a safe space for you to process and release trauma at your own pace, without overwhelming your nervous system.

Who Can Benefit from Brainspotting?

Anyone can benefit from Brainspotting, whether you’ve experienced chronic or childhood trauma, recent trauma, or you’re struggling with emotional blocks. Brainspotting is also highly effective for overcoming anxiety, distorted beliefs, performance anxiety, and more.

Brainspotting can help with:
